I made these bone china brooches while I was apprenticed to a master ceramist.
They were made using bone china paperclay and I’m going to call it “printed” (to crowbar them into my current website!) from moulds featuring interesting textures—this one looks like bricks with rounded corners laid in a stretcher bond pattern (the right and left ends of the bricks on any row line up with the middle of the bricks on the rows above and below). Bet you didn’t know you were going to learn about brick laying patterns when you came to look at this brooch, eh?!
These brooches are remarkably tactile and they are strong… to a point. Bear in mind they are ceramic, so subject to all the usual rules you’d apply to your favourite cup, they’re probably not dishwasher safe, though. If they get grubby, you can wash the brooch with a non-stick kitchen scourer and soap.
Some sharp(ish I sanded them all as smooth as I could) points may be present, quite apart from the brooch back, so definitely not suitable for children.
